Larry Blake’s "Night Star" was the book of choice for me (Daniel Nauenburg) when I decided to prove my book making process. See the Small Press "How To" section for information on how I made this book. As you can see by the information provided above, this is a trade paperback book. What you may not be aware of is that this paperback book was made by hand using common tools available in any good hardware store. The story behind this book is quite simple. I had a book making process that needed proving and Larry Blake a book that needed publishing. Coming soon to this web site is a photo essay detailing what this book looks like bound up, and the successes and failures of my book making process.
Below is a synopsis of the actual content of the book detailing the story that Larry Blake was good enough to allow me to publish for him.
Night Star is a work in progress according to Larry Blake. In fact the material in this edition is a re-working of older material by the same name, expanded out to a much larger and richly detailed story. Potential readers should know that of the 119 pages of material, this is not enough to complete the story. Rather, Larry informs me that Night Star is an ongoing story that has no definite ending. That means that you can think of this book as one huge first issue.
The story in this first big issue deals with the origin of, you guessed it, Night Star, an apparently human woman that has extraordinary powers built into her by a crazy alien named Lar-Ekal that fled his home planet because he thought that is was doomed. You might say he’s an intergalactic mental patient. Night Star, totally devoid of a past, must discover what her role in the world is, and what her powers are, and their limits. But just as she is emerging into this strange new world for the first time like a child being borne, so to are a series of other "Hyper Humans" and human looking Aliens that exhibit extraordinary powers of their own, emerge to complicate matters.
